You can feel an incredible drop in D2, and you can appreciate it for dozens of levels in some cases - if not forever in edge cases. The tedium is in the itemization and over-world level normalization. The 100 grind with current XP rates is a far better experience than any 99s I’ve ever had on D2. on the way up to 100 - and 100 is very much attainable with 8-10 hours/week of gameplay. I honestly had much more fun with the assortment of Tides, NMDs, Legions, Events, WB, PvP, etc. In the same breath the itemization was that good, and that addictive that tens of thousands of us old saps still opine in its name until this very day. The end game loop is/was absolutely dreadful in hindsight. The foundational game is incredibly strong.ĭ2 end game for the better part of 22 years was the same 8-10 target farm locations + Andy, Meph, Diablo and Baal.
